What is Valium and when is it used?

Valium belongs to the class of drugs called benzodiazepines. The active ingredient of Valium has anxiolytic, sedative, anticonvulsant, calming and muscle relaxant properties.

Your doctor has prescribed Valium to treat states of anxiety and tension that may derive from a mental illness or be the expression of a transitory period of overexertion and which generally manifest themselves with hyperexcitability, nervousness, feelings of anxiety and distress, sense of oppression and discouragement; they can also be associated with somatic symptoms, such as palpitations, sweating, sleep disturbances, tremor.

What must also be taken into account during treatment?

Valium alone cannot resolve the cause of anxiety and tension.

Valium can be used as a concomitant therapy to relieve muscle spasms, caused for example by trauma or inflammatory processes.

When can’t Valium be used?

Do not use Valium in case of known hypersensitivity to benzodiazepines.

If you suffer from severe breathing problems, from waking up at night due to pauses in breathing (sleep apnea syndrome), from liver disease or pathological muscle weakness (so-called “myasthenia gravis”) or if you are dependent on a sedative, including alcohol, you should not take Valium.

What does Valium contain?

Valium is available in the form of 5 mg yellow tablets and 10 mg blue tablets of diazepam (active ingredient). They contain other excipients and dyes. Valium 10 mg tablets contain the coloring E 132.
