When choking, foreign objects can block the airways, causing difficulty breathing. In some cases, this may not be a real concern. However, if you don’t get proper treatment, this airway blockage can also be life-threatening.
To minimize this risk, there is a first aid procedure for choking people called the Heimlich maneuver. This procedure is also known as abdominal thrusting because it involves pressing the abdomen to push the foreign body out.
